Maarten Landman about work

Hi! I'm Maarten

A twenty-four year old UX Designer from Rotterdam.
I am an analytic thinker who thrives in teams and is always up for a challenge. My interests range from user research to hosting creative sessions. I prefer a head-on, structured approach on my projects where both research and design revolves around the user.

Besides that I am verbally strong, do not shy away from presentations and like to challenge myself to take an extra step. Creating a design is like solving a puzzle. You can start with any piece you want, but having a solid plan improves your chance of finishing, reduces frustration and lets you be proud of your accomplishment. Also, you'll do better as a team. Where I can carry my own responsibilities, my strength lies in building upon the ideas of my team.

Methods

As a designer I have added a range of methods and skills to my toolbox over the years. I make design choices based on material, theoretical and emperical arguments. Every decision sprouts from the context plus the argument, compared to alternatives and based on the relevant factors. Through understanding the wants and needs of users I aim to evoke emotions and persuade users to make choices. This way of thinking is also applied to picking which methods fit with the project I am working on.

    Stanford D.School Design Thinking Process
During my studies most of the time we based our design process on the Stanford D.School Design Thinking Process. It is a structured process that helps to create a clear guideline to segment the project and focus on key tasks when needed. For me personally this helps creating a project overview and serves as a way to define my design process and the key elements of it.

    SCRUM
There are multiple approaches to a project. No right or wrong choices. Figuring out which approach fits the best with the team and the context is an important part of the design process and therefore it is important to me that I know how to work with different structures. I have worked with SCRUM multiple times and have experience with being a SCRUM master.
